How do I set it as my wallpaper?
Unstill saves the Live Photo to your photo library. Open Photos, find it — it is your newest photo — then tap Share and Use as Wallpaper. You can also touch and hold your Lock Screen, tap +, then Photos, and pick it there.
My wallpaper barely moves. What went wrong?
Almost always the chosen moment. iOS does not play your whole video on the Lock Screen — it plays about a second and a half taken from just before the frame you picked. If nothing much was happening in that stretch, the wallpaper has nothing to show. Open the video again and slide the filmstrip so the yellow bracket covers real movement: the bracket is exactly the part that will play.
iOS says “Motion Not Available”
That is iOS refusing to animate the Live Photo, usually because the source had no real movement in the part that plays — a locked-off shot of something still, or a section where the video was paused. Pick a moment with visible motion and create it again. If a particular video does it every time, email us and say which app or camera it came from.
What videos can I use?
Any video in your photo library that is at least 1.5 seconds long: your camera, a screen recording, a clip someone sent you, 4K and HDR included. Unstill takes video only — an animated GIF is an image as far as Photos is concerned, so it will not appear in the picker.
Why does it ask to add to my photos but not to read them?
Because adding is all it needs. Choosing a video goes through Apple's own picker, which runs outside the app and hands over only the one video you select — iOS shows you a note saying exactly that. The only permission Unstill requests is permission to add the finished Live Photo to your library.
Does my video get uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens on your iPhone. There are no servers, no account, no analytics and no tracking. See the privacy policy.
Can I change which frame it rests on after saving?
Not in place — but reopening the video and picking a different moment takes a few seconds, and the result is a new Live Photo. Wallpapers you have already made stay in Recents.
It saved, but I cannot find it in Photos
It is the newest item in your library, so it sits first in Recents there. If you have iCloud Photos on a slow connection it can take a moment to appear on other devices; it is on the iPhone that made it straight away.
What does Unstill cost?
Nothing. There are no in-app purchases and no subscription.
Which iPhones does it work on?
iPhone running iOS 18 or later. Live Photo wallpapers animate on the Lock Screen only — set as a Home Screen background, a Live Photo shows as a still, which is how iOS behaves for every app.
